Deyo Family Session | Forest, Virginia
After the rain cleared, we headed outside to their beautiful backyard to get photos that I think are the epitome of Summer. I will forever love how carefree and fun this session was and how happy I am that they have photos that mark this time in their lives.
We had been married for two weeks, had just moved from Vegas to Lynchburg, Virginia, and I was on the job hunt. If you want to have large transitions all at once, thatβs definitely one way to do it. During this time, I interviewed for an admin position and Adam Deyo became my boss and family acquaintances turned into friends. Eventually I quit my job to do photography full-time and Nate actually swapped scenes with me to work with Adam in the same department. The only reason we live so far away from this incredible family now is well, because we moved to Charlotte.
The day of the session, it rained β typical Lynchburg β but that didnβt matter because we knew we wanted to get some lifestyle shots around their beuaitul farmhouse and I love how they turned out! We hit rooms that had a lot of natural light and Kelley wanted to make sure we captured their beautiful ordinary β things that they normally do like hanging out in the kitchen while she prepped dinner.

*For photographers β because I wanted to shoot color inside under low-light conditions, I did use a mix of digital and pushed film for the inside shots along with black and white film. Both mediums served me well in this session!
Bell Anniversary Session | Oak Ridge Estate & Farm | Charlottesville, Virginia
Five years ago, I met Bethany and Kenan the day before their wedding - at their rehearsal where I was playing piano. We were connected through mutual friends and two years later, I ended up marrying a man (you know him as Nate) who grew up in the same town in West Virginia as Kenan. So basically we were all meant to be friends.

Fast-forward to Bethany doing my sister's hair for her wedding and us moving to Lynchburg and we find ourselves in Charlottesville with this stunning couple and their little girl who is basically the epitome of charming.
Bethany and Kenan got married on the gorgeous grounds of Oak Ridge Estate and came back for an anniversary session 5 years later complete with a baby announcement. To say that they slayed their session is a huge understatement because, come on, look at it. You get it.

To say we are honored that families would allow us to pause their lives in photos is an understatement. From maternity photos, to sweet Owenβs newborn session, to Spring family photos, Susanne and Ryan have been so easy and fun to capture on the other side of the lens. Even though itβs wedding season, we still love meeting families during the week to capture gems like these. I mean I could gush about how much I love them, but I think itβs pretty evident.

Admittedly, I havenβt always loved photographing family sessions. My jam has been couples, their love story, the journey through their engagement, and the wedding celebration to kick-off their marriage. This year, though, weβve had the honor of capturing incredible moments with families who have trusted us and Iβve grown to love photographing families. Weβve slowed down with film to try to capture their moments and the emotion they share. To help pause their life - stamping time with a photo so that moment stays forever.

Another incentive to shoot family moments was the appearance of a glorious little squish named Linus. He doubles as the cutest nephew in the world and doesn't mind giving out smiles for the camera. And since weβre firm believers that pets are family too, George was a non-negotiable - he brought his A-game.
We caught the last breath of Fall at Carter Mountain Orchard in Charlottesville to fulfill Kathrynβs vision of having family photos at an apple orchard and then we headed back towards Lynchburg to finish the session. I'm so incredibly happy with how these turned out and I'm not ashamed to say that a 9-month-old stole my heart.
